About Phil
Phillip "Phil" Nathan Strongin, 81, passed away peacefully on Jan. 14, 2026, near his Buena Vista, Colorado home after a long battle with a rare condition.
Phil was born Dec. 20, 1944, in Sioux City, Iowa, where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Sara Van Horn, and completed his bachelor’s degree. After earning a master's in international management, Phil built a career in agribusiness and rose to become CEO of Cereal Food Processors, Inc., now part of Grain Craft. His work took him across the country and around the world, including leading flour exports to exotic nations where he forged enduring friendships with colleagues from other firms.
Phil enjoyed history, geography, and a deep and evolving passion for the outdoors. He took his family on many adventures, and in our favorite memories, he's navigating boats, wading through marshes, exploring trails, and training his beloved hunting dogs.
Phil is survived by his wife, Sara; son, Eric, and his wife, Annie; and daughter, Dana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Harriet (Caya) Strongin, and sister, Gloria.

Most of all, he fostered my fiery spirit. This sometimes led to mischief, but he must have known that this fierceness would serve me well in life. It was a very special way to grow up, and I’ll always carry that gift with me.
